Monks-warriors

Monks-warriors

These pieces, in small format, represent for me, in its simplicity, the essence of sculpture.
They are intentionally made of very few pieces and, as they are small, they seek contact. If you take a quick look you will see captive, introspective warriors, but if you look at them well, carefully, you will observe that everything is a trap. There is no face, there are no arms, neither is there a body, at most a pair of legs ... and little else. This is grace, nothing is anything, but the pieces once assembled form a whole that invites us to pick us up, to meditate, even to pray.

'Warrior 1' / first(2016)

'Warrior 2' / Templar(201 /)

xcm

Material:
Ferro

Employees:
Hoe, stirrup, two iron bars, ancient twisted mesh, two threads, inner part of a lock, three pieces of iron.
Its long and populated beard remembers the one of a templar, monk-warrior of the Middle Age that the pilgrims that traveled to the Holy Land defended. The garment of the right part could be a mesh quota, as well as the piece that leads diagonally, which also gives it a warrior air. Finally, the hoe in the form of a later layer, the soul of the piece, is the one that confers its dignity and strength.

'Guerrero 3 / Hermit(2017)

'Warrior 4 / Boscater(2017)

15x30x7 cm

Material:
Ferro

Employees:
Small hoe, pincers handles, two iron bars, outer and inner part of a lock, three pieces of iron.
His squared beard, trimmed but powerful, is what expressiveness gives him. The hoop when being small is complemented by the outer part of a lock cut as a layer. The position of the stitches, to which the tip has escaped, remembers the position of the arms that a woodcutter would have when holding the ax. (Perhaps, like the former Basques, it is asking mother nature permission to cut a tree) Finally in front there is the inner part of a lock. If we look at it, we will see that, although inverted, the shape of both locks is coincident.

His particular undulating beard, and his shimmering body reminds us of the figure of a hermit monk who spends the time walking through the mountains with nothing to do. He must also pray and meditate, as all the hermits do, but he particularly likes leaving the cell and escaping to the Areny mountain where he feels happy listening to the song of the birds and contemplating the wonderful landscape of the Baix Camp .

'Warrior 7 / Capricorn(2018)
